The Story Behind the Cup: Kenya Kirinyaga – Kariru Farm AA

Family-operated since the 1960s, Kariru Farm sits on the rich volcanic foothills of snowcapped Mount Kenya. Here, cool highland air, consistent rainfall, and year-round equatorial sunlight create an environment where coffee cherries mature slowly, developing remarkable aroma and complexity.

The volcanic soils—deep, well-drained, and rich in organic material—give the trees the nutrients they need to produce cherries of exceptional quality. Each harvest is meticulously hand-sorted to ensure only perfectly ripe cherries move forward to processing, a small but essential step that elevates the final cup.

After washing, the coffee is sun-dried on raised beds, preserving its brightness and bringing out the signature Kenyan clarity. The result is a cup that reflects not only Kirinyaga’s terroir, but the care, tradition, and craftsmanship of the families who have cultivated these slopes for generations.

Rich. Juicy. Uplifting.
A radiant expression of Kenya’s most celebrated coffee region.
